FENTON CUP

The first round of the Fenton Cup is nearing completion as another side booked their place in the second round on Saturday. St Francis were taking on an in-form Puma Kings side from a division above with both sides eager to continue their run in the competition. But it was Puma Kings who had a royally good day out, earning themselves a 4-1 victory to progress on despite a Steven Porter goal for the Saints.

SENIOR DIVISION

With a limited league fixture list due to the county cup, East Ham Inter took advantage of the situation to go top of the league as they took on Docklands Albion in Walthamstow. Jayke Welch and Kalu Olugu both got on the Albion scoresheet but a goal apiece from Meelad Hamard and Adam Bessadi levelled things up on the day at 2-2 as the sides settled for a point each.

It couldn’t be any tighter at the top presently with three sides all level on thirteen points, the top two separated on goals scored alone. ACD United are one of those sides and they arrested a recent poor patch with a terrific 3-0 win away at West Essex Reserves on Saturday. Mason Oakley and Michael Wade got the goals to move them level at the top.

Blue Marlin are not far off the pace as they recorded a third league victory in five this season at the weekend, seeing off the efforts of a decent Grove United side. That Marlin victory in a 2-0 scoreline, aided by goals from Harry Walder and Scott Campbell, saw them move up to sixth place in the standings, just behind their opponents on goal difference but with a game in hand.

DIVISION ONE

The day’s only match in Division One was a thriller as one of the Chingford derby matches saw close rivals, Rapid Chingford and Chingford United, go head-to-head at Parmiters. In a game of seven goals, Razvan Anghel, Dragos Aenasoaie and Ion Bostan all netted for United but their efforts proved in vain. Michael Birtalan, Danut Mihalache, Ionyut Pumnutiu and Florvin Ivancia goals made it a 4-3 Rapid win for the hosts, moving their side up to second in the table.

DIVISION TWO

Chingford Athletic Development bounced back from defeat in their last outing in positive fashion as they faced up to a Rainham Working Mens Club side on Saturday in Waltham Abbey. Rainham goals from Dillon Anderson and David Hornsby were not quite enough as Chingford ran out 4-2 victors to close the gap on the league leaders.

Eastside remain within touching distance of the promotion places this season as they were comfortable winners in their away trip to face Old Esthameians in Newbury Park. Wembi Ghenda, Abraham Monae and Idris Shittu all got on the scoresheet to hand Eastside a 3-0 victory on the day.

The division’s remaining game on the day was a belter of a fixture as FC BKT saw the visit of Flyers to Dagenham with only a point between these sides before the game. That gap remained by the end but not before they had shared an astonishing ten goals in a 5-5 draw. Michael Barek, Stephen Claxton, Jason Collins, Reggie O’Donoghue and Jack Swaby all scored for Flyers to help claim a point.

DIVISION THREE

Royal Forest have returned to the top of the Division Three standings as they took advantage of others being in county cup action by recording a fourth win of the campaign. They were up against Chingford Harriers for whom Dave Birchnall was on target. But Forest goals from Kyle Balou, Tom Osmond, Robert Evans and Barry Fuschillo carried their side to a 4-1 win.

Haver Town Reserves are breathing down the necks of the leaders and are second only by goal difference as they also made it four wins from six so far this year. They bounced back well from defeat last time out to beat Custom House United through strikes from Billy Biggs, Courtney Waller, Jack Phillips, Ryan Kelland and George Russell in  a 5-1 scoreline. Glenn levy was the Dockers scorer with their consolation effort.

Flyers Reserves remain in a strong position having opened up with three wins in four games so far and they stretched that run with solid 6-3 victory over Forest Green Reserves in Leyton. Bryan Kyungu scored a hat-trick with Dymon Labonne, Andrew Mbewe and Leon Bernard goals accounting for their goal tally. Tommy Whelan, Mikael Martin and Josh Kasongo all got on the scoresheet in reply for Green.

DIVISION FOUR

The only game of the weekend in Division Four saw a terrific contest between Newham Royals and Avondale Rangers in Chadwell Heath, finally settled by the odd goal in five. Ronald Asante netted for Royals but Chris Harper, Thomas Jackson-Lyall and Paul Regan efforts for Avondale completed an important 3-2 win that moves them fourth in the table.

ESSEX JUNIOR CUP

It was a terrific afternoon for EAL clubs in the county cup competitions with a number of sides making safe passage into the third round. In the Essex Junior Cup, there were some great victories as four sides took out Olympian opposition to progress on.

Chingford Athletic Reserves had a difficult looking trip to Springfield Reserves but will have enjoyed their trip home after they cruised to a 7-2 victory to book their place in the next round of the competition against Westhamians.

There was also a big win for Jolof Sports who were up against Collier Row and raced into a 4-0 half-time lead. The visitors showed improvement in the second half but an eventual 5-1 victory was secured by Jolof to go through to face either Singh Sabha Barking or Harold Wood Athletic A in the next round.

Lymore Gardens were involved in an entertaining game as they thought they had done enough to win late on, only for Newbury Forest Reserves to level it up at 3-3 and take to extra time and then penalties. Lymore showed their composure from the spot as they secured a 6-5 shootout win to book a third round spot away at Old Barkabbeyans.

And completing the great set of results for our clubs were Melbourne Sports who had a hard fought game away at Dagenham United in Newbury Park. Level at the break, the Mels put in a sterling second half performance to win it 4-2 and they will now head down to south Essex to face Bowers & Pitsea Under 23s in the next round.

ESSEX JUNIOR TROPHY

In the Essex Junior Trophy, there was a mixture of some great and indifferent results for our sides with a number of long journeys for our clubs. Dagenham United Reserves made the longest journey of them all as they travelled all the way up to Gosfield United Reserves, securing a fantastic 3-0 win to secure a third round trip to face Leytonstone United Under 21s.

Frenford A carried their fine league form into the county cup as they cruised to a 4-0 home win over Emerson United. That win also sees them up against Under 21 opposition in the next round where they travel to Collier Row Under 21s.

Also continuing fine early season form, CSM London played host to fellow EAL side New Star Soccer with the visitors looking to overcome a division deficit. But CSM showed their class in wrapping up a 3-1 win to book a trip to Ongar Jubilee Under 21s in the next round.

There was almost a shock in one of the other all-EAL ties as Division Four side Loughton Lions held Division One Chigwell to a 2-2 draw at ninety minutes. But their joy was short-lived as the extra time period eventually saw Chigwell win 6-2 and secure a trip to Pitsea Athletic in round three.

There was a seven-goal thriller involving the other Chigwell side as Chigwell Mens Club were up against fellow Division Four side, Brentwood United Reserves, on Saturday. A closely fought contest saw it settled by the odd goal as Brentwood won 4-3 to book a third round tie away at Broomfield Reserves.

Of the sides going out at the second round stage, Glendale had a long trip to the beautiful surroundings of Mid Essex-based White Notley Reserves, but will feel hard done by as they surrendered a 2-1 second half lead to agonisingly go down 3-2 late on.

Upshire Forest were involved in a local derby as they faced familiar faces in the shape of Hertford League based Nazeing. In an absorbing contesting, Upshire led 2-1 but were pegged back to 2-2 before eventually going down 4-2 after extra time.

Brook City’s trip to Harold Hill Reserves didn’t quite as how they might have planned as they slipped to a 6-0 defeat against their Mid Essex League opponents to end their participation in the competition for this season.

And completing the Essex county cup ties, Division Four leaders Debden Park suffered a second defeat in succession as they took on a high-flying Ongar Jubilee Under 21s outfit from the Olympian League. Park went down 4-0 to exit the competition and concentrate their focus on league glory this year.

LONDON JUNIOR CUP

There were some great results for our clubs in the London Junior Cup over the weekend with three sides earning victories to book a place in round three next month.

FC Baresi will be looking to earn another good run in the competition after reaching the latter stages last season and they are on their way once again after seeing off Kent County League side Drummond Athletic in a 5-2 scoreline. They will host Wimbledon League based Earlsfield in the next round.

There was another great away win as Forest Green made the trip to face West End Premier Division side Park Stars. They will have returned home much the happier of the sides as they won 4-0 to go through to the next round. They now face another long trek as they head to Croydon to face Old Plymouthians Reserves.

Making it a trio of away-day victories, east London’s Tower Hamlets Reserves saw off west London’s Chelsea Rovers, beating them 6-1 to secure an interesting third round tie at home to Surrey South Eastern Combination League side Turkocagi Bermondsey.

Last but not least, Lopes Tavares London Reserves had a difficult looking tie against PWCA Wimbledon who made the trip across the London to West Ham to face our side. Lopes eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat to exit the competition.
