It was a weekend of Fenton Cup action with 14 sides seeking progress into the 3rd round on the road to Dagenham & Redbridge in May. The shock of the round came from Wanstead Flats where Division One side, Custom House, toppled their Premier Division opponents, Eastside Rangers, on penalties 5-2 after the game had been locked at 2-2. Custom House’s goals came through Mabz Rahman and Robert Wooster to secure the 3rd round place. There is also a place in the next round for Division Two Grove United who saw off the challenge of their struggling Division One opponents Glendale, winning 6-2 with Glendale’s goals arriving through Andrejs Nosikovs and John Taylor. Melbourne Sports were pushed all the way by their Division One opponents, Forest Green, where a single goal from John Schubert was enough to take the win. Northend overcame fellow Division One side London Bari Res courtesy of a brace of goals from Ryan Leddra and other strikes from Chris Margiotta and Luke Gabriel. Chingford Athletic won their local derby cup tie with Chingford Harriers by 5 goals to 1 with Lee Doyle’s double plus a goal apiece from Matt Thompson, Daniel Costis and Tobias Hayden cancelled our Dan Pereira’s goal for Harriers. West Essex Res won their nine-goal thriller away at Canio eventually prevailing 6-3 with a brace from Ryan Walker and singles from Samuel Brown, Otis Gatehouse, Adam Norris and Charles Moss. For Canio, Robert Haim, Benjamin Aldorino and Hasrat Mahmud were on target in response. In the final Fenton Cup tie, Newham Royals’ interest in the competition was ended as they were knocked out by high-flying Division One side, Blue Marlin, 9-2 with James Toppin scoring four goals, a Kieron James double and singles from Chibueze Anyaegbu, Matthew Hamilton and Scott Campbell.

In the Premier Division, May & Baker EC A got back to winning ways to extend their lead at the top of the table to 8 points in a 4-1 win against AAH Romford with the winning goals arriving through Carl Patten (2), Kane Messenger and Lewis Edmunds. St Francis moved up to sixth in the table following a 4-1 away win at Cranes United with a brace from Jack Luck adding to goals from Thomas Jakob and Danny Schietaert. Newham Res picked up a third win of the campaign with a 4-2 win against Rainham Working Mens Club.

St John’s Deaf stay hot on the heals of the leaders in Division One following a 5-0 win against Three Colts which lifts them into third place in the table, six points off the leaders with two games in hand.

Division Two is now led by Leyton Green where goals from Fermat Erdogun, Anthony Ferdinand and Barack Quadri cancelled out a Rajan Sangha goal for Singh Sabha Barking to record a 3-1 win and maximum points for Green. Dagenham United continued their recent excellent form with a 5-1 away win at Northend Res, a win which lifts them to the lofty heights on third place in the table. Bezel Khanye was on target with Northend’s goal. Cowley Community drop to second place after being held at St Francis Res, 2-2, with Sean Burgess and Marcel Byfield scoring the goals for the Saints.
