Jolof Sports Club have extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division to five points following their 4-1 win on Saturday at Melbourne Sports. Luke Newson found the back of the net for the Mels in consolation. Michael Mignot scored all four goals for Chingford Athletic but that could only get them a point as London Falcons rescued a draw.

Grove United edged a close game against West Essex Reserves in Division One as they won 2-1 to maintain their perfect record as we go into February. Their match against Three Colts next weekend, who themselves have only lost once, will surely define the season for those sides. Two goals from Francesco Tagliamonti and a strike from John Taylor were not enough for Glendale who slipped to an 8-3 defeat away at a revitalised St Johns Deaf side. Jamie Clarke netted a hat-trick with Huseyin Er (2) and Marios Costi (2) and Davod Jarchlou rounding off the scoring.

In Division Two, Northend slipped to a third defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 at Custom House with Ryan Leddra netting Northend’s goal. London APSA took full advantage of the season, winning 2-1 against St Francis Reserves to move themselves up to second place on goal difference. Three sides now sit level on 23 points with only goals separating them. Leyton Green won 3-0 at home to Newham Royals but with their games running out, it’s looking like a tough ask for them to challenge for honours this season.

The Division Two Cup quarter final on Saturday saw Chingford Athletic Reserves travel to West Ham to face Inter Plaistow with a place in the semi final at stake for the winner. Samuel Garrett netted twice for Inter to cancel out Chingford goals from George Watmough and Lee Doyle and send the game to spot-kicks. A save from Chingford’s Joseph Middleweek in the shoot-out was enough to confirm his side’s place in the last four and one game away from Dagenham & Redbridge FC.

For Buckhurst Hill Under 21s in their Essex Junior Trophy quarter-final clash, it was a case of a game of two halves as a heavily wind affected match saw them race into a 3-0 half time lead away at Frenford Senior A. Unfortunately, their Mid Essex League opponents also made full use of the wind advantage in the second half and ran out 4-3 winners to end Hill’s involvement in the competition this season.
