Despite the adverse weather, most fixtures this weekend went ahead including some county cup ties involving sides from our league. St Francis were visited by Kent County League side Blackheath United in the London Junior Cup 2nd round and despatched their opponents in a tight game, 1-0 to make the 3rd round draw and book an intriguing tie against last season’s Ilford & District League Premier Division champions, East Londoners, now members of the Essex Olympian League.

In the Essex Junior Cup, Melbourne Sports came from 2-0 down with a few minutes to go to force their game against Sheering into extra time, eventually prevailing 3-2 against their Bishops Stortford League opponents. This takes their participation into the 2015 and a fourth round tie at home to Chingford Town or Sumners who saw their own game postponed. Chingford Athletic’s trip to Southend-based Weir Sports also succumbed to the weather with a postponement.

The Essex Junior Trophy action was less successful for our Essex Alliance League clubs as Singh Sabha Barking travelled to Flyers and were eliminated 5-2 against the Romford League side while West Essex Res hosted Real Maldon and lost 4-2. Northend’s trip to the seaside to face Southend Sports A was cancelled and we await Essex FA’s guidance on the outcome of that tie.

St John's Deaf had a busy weekend and were in British Deaf Cup quarter-final action yesterday (Sunday) with a trip to Nottingham and returned victorious, winning 9-0 to make the semi finals.

Three Colts secured a place in the third round of the Fenton Cup as they travelled to Dagenham to face Northend Res and came away 2-0 winners with goals from Richard Blackwell and Kane Beaumont to progress them to a home tie against St Johns Deaf.

In Premier Division action, May & Baker EC A took full advantage of the failings of their closest rivals to open up an eight point gap at the top following a 2-0 away win at Eastside Rangers as Joshua Lowbridge and Darren Seymour netted. Second placed Jolof Sports Club suffered a 2-1 reverse away at Cranes United despite Modou Sankareh's goal while AAH Romford were back to winning ways with a 3-0 home win against Newham Res to lift themselves two places and up to ninth in the standings. Joe Tizard, Ryan Quincey and Steven Richards were on target with the Romford goals.

The theme of the Division One action this week was late goals and comebacks as St Johns Deaf came from behind against their Chingford Town Res opponents to win 5-3 to maintain their charge. Vittoriosa Falcons also had to do it the hard way, scoring a late winner away at London Bari Res to stay in second place with Falcons goals being scored by Nathan Scarborough (2) and Aaron Adams.  Another side leaving it late were leaders Blue Marlin who struck just before the end to take maximum points in a 3-2 win at home to Forest Green courtesy of a double from Chibueze Anyaegbu and a single from James Toppin. Lord Nelson rescued a point very late in the game against Glendale who had led into the final minutes but had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Kalu Olugu, Andrejs Nosikovs and Bradley Doyle were the Glendale scorers.

Leyton Green hold their place at the top of Division Two following a win by the odd goal in nine away at Custom House despite goals from Bradley Routledge (2), Paul Wooster and Charlie Clark for Custom House. Cowley Community stay within touching distance with a 2-0 away win at form side Dagenham United courtesy of strikes from Mark Farinha and Izynna Ogedi-Uzokwe. Grove United hit double figures at home to St Francis Res in a 10-0 win that moves them up to third and six points off the leaders. Harry Chalk was the star of the show with four goals adding to a double from Danny Rumble and strikes from Roy Jones, Dan Spinks, Neil Matthews and Tom Blackmur.
