This Wednesday evening, a historic evening will see Senior club Woodford East take their place in the BBC Essex Premier Cup Final at Billericay Town FC, both the club and league's maiden final in this competition following elevation to Regional Feeder League status this season. They will take on Sungate in an all-London boroughs final, kicking-off at 7.45pm at New Lodge.

It's been a dramatic run in the competition for Halil Hassan's Woodford side who began their run, entirely on the road, with a 2-1 victory away at White Ensign Reserves in the opening round before coming through an entertaining encounter against May & Baker EC A, winning 5-3. Their third opponents were Dunmow Town where, after a very late aborted first attempt due to weather, the second attempt saw East actually defeated on the day before a subsequent misdemeanour saw East given a walkover. The quarter-final saw another lengthy trip with a visit to Tiptree Heath where, despite an early setback, Woodford went on to win 5-2. In the semi-final, they faced Middlesex County League side, Clapton Community, in front of hundreds of spectators. Another top performance saw them come through that game 3-1 on the day to set up a final against Sungate.

The other side of the draw has been equally dramatic but it's Sungate who will be East's opposition on the night, the Olympian League Premier Division side presently sitting eighth in the league standings with ten games to go in their season, along with a league cup final too. Their own run has seen wins against Barnston, Wivenhoe Town Reserves, Wakering Sports, Harold Hill, Basildon Town and Catholic United which demonstates they are a side to be weary of.

We wish Halil and all of the Woodford East team the very best of luck on the night and we look forward to being there in number to cheer you on.
