The Premier Division and Division One titles will each go down to the wire after some big results in Saturday’s fixture list.

Chingford Athletic hosted Jolof Sports Club, their nearest rivals for the Premier Division title, with both sides knowing a win would leave them in pole position for the title. Having suffered defeat to Blue Marlin on their last outing, Chingford were looking to bounce back and did so in the best fashion going ahead very early on through Gary Murray’s goal. Jolof Sports had chances of their own to level but lacked that killer instinct in front of goal and they were punished further when Michael Mignot pounced on a defensive lapse to race clear and finish past the keeper and make it 2-0. Jolof were far the better side in the second period and had plenty of chances to get themselves back into the game but the Chingford “wall” saw out the game to move within three points of back-to-back titles. Melbourne Sports were 6-0 winners at home to Chingford Town to secure a seventh place finish. That result will also see Chingford Town finish in the bottom two this season with other results not going their way elsewhere.

In Division One, Three Colts brushed aside St John’s Deaf by winning 6-2 at Met Police to send the league title to a deciding match next Saturday. They go level with leaders Grove United on 45 points but the latter’s superior goal difference means that Colts go into Saturday’s winner-takes-all decider needing no less than maximum points to be crowned champions.

In the week ahead, attentions turn to the first two of this season’s EAL cup finals as the Premier Division Cup and Division One Cup reach their conclusion at Dagenham & Redbridge FC. Previews of these finals will be available online soon as we look ahead to who might be crowned cup winners this week.
