The race for the promotion places in Division Two this season really couldn’t be more highly contested as possibly six sides retain an interest in confirming places in Division One next season. Based on games in hand, you would think that Northend hold all the aces and they maintained their push with a 2-0 home win over Leyton Green with Michael Urling-Brown and Richard Holland scoring the crucial goals to lift them to third place. Chingford Athletic Reserves also keep pushing and were 4-3 winners on Saturday in a pulsating clash with Custom House as Tom Pearce’s brace plus strikes for Michael Boahene and George Watmough saw them home with the points. London APSA move up to fifth position after an emphatic 9-0 win away at Newham Royals.

In the Premier Division, Chingford Athletic closed the gap on the leaders, Jolof Sports, with a 3-0 win away at May & Baker EC A at the weekend. Goals from James Clarke, Michael Mignot and debutant Scott Campbell saw off the Baker threat. Daniel Vearer’s brace plus a goal from Will Ukpe were enough for London Falcons to record a victory against Melbourne Sports, winning 3-1, despite a Luke Newson goal for the visitors.

Kitgum Boys maintained the pressure on the Division One leaders as they won 2-0 at home to Cowley Community. Also victorious were St Johns Deaf who overcame the threat of Forest Green, winning 6-3 with six different scorers. Halwant Kerkouyi, Huseyin Er, Okan Demiric, Jason McLean, James Paull and Eltom Jose accounted for the St Johns goals, a win that keeps them fourth in the table. West Essex Reserves were 2-1 winners on the road away at Chingford Harriers despite Peter Shawyer netting for the Harriers.

Three Colts’ Essex Junior Trophy campaign sadly came to an end at Frenford Senior A on Saturday as they valiantly went down 2-1, after extra time. The victors will now face Buckhurst Hill Under 21s in next week’s quarter finals.
