It is with great sadness that we report the sad passing of league officer and former chairman of Essex County FA, Wayne Deller.
Wayne has had a long and distinguished involvement with grassroots football in Essex, alongside reaching a very high level as a referee and spending many of his latter years as an observer to help develop the next wave of match officials.
He first started as a club secretary back in 1969 before taking on the role of a league official soon after, becoming a director of Essex County FA in 2012 and elected to serve as chairman of the county in 2015, a role which he held for his full five year term. Upon his retirement, Wayne was elected as a life president of the county.
Wayne was elected to the Essex Alliance Football League's committee in 2016, serving in the roles of Assistant Referees Secretary, Minutes Secretary, League Development Officer and Senior Division Liaision Officer following the competition's elevation to FA Regional Feeder League status.
With over 50 years of service to football in Essex, Wayne's contributions to the game in our region are vast and will always be remembered.
The league wishes it's sincerest condolences to all of Wayne's friends and family at this difficult time.
RIP Wayne
