It is with great sadness that we report the sad passing of former league official, club official and league Life Vice President, David Grace, at the age of 93 following a period of illness.
David’s involvement in local football stretches back many decades in his roles as secretary and chairman of St Francis Football Club which had been in existence since the 1930s and were members in both the Essex Alliance League and it's forerunner, the Ilford & District Football League.
Alongside his long service at club level, David was also a volunteer with the Ilford & District Football League and was elected onto the Management Committee in 1982, carrying out the role of Discipline Secretary right through until the league merged to become the Essex Alliance League. During that time, David was awarded the coveted Jack Hooper Trophy for outstanding service to the competition.
Upon formation of the Essex Alliance League in 2014, in recognition of service provided to the local football, David was elected as one of the league's first Life Vice Presidents, attending many of the competition's cup finals and presentation evenings.
The league wishes to offer it’s sincerest condolences to all of David's family and friends at this difficult time.
We kindly ask all clubs to conduct a minute’s silence at upcoming fixtures to remember and reflect on David's contributions to grassroots football across the region.
