Jolof Sports struck late on to beat ACD United 1-0 on Wednesday night under the lights at Dagenham & Redbridge to seal the Fenton Cup and completing a treble in the process.

After a quiet start to the contest, ACD had the first shot of the night but the effort was well wide of the goal. Jolof threatened briefly too with the wide player beating his man, cutting into the box but his final pass was a little wayward and the chance evaporated. The game really ignited after half an hour as Jolof were reduced to ten men following a heavy challenge which added plenty of spice to the contest. But they made light work of the disadvantage and were unlucky not to lead by the break with further chances coming and going before ACD missed a big chance on the stroke of half time.

The second half began as the first had finished with Jolof seeing plenty of the ball and conjuring the first big chance of the half, thwarted by a last-ditch challenge from ACD’s central defender. Their keeper was then called upon to the make the best save of the night as he turned a Jolof free-kick around the post at full stretch to keep the scores level on the night. As the ninety minute mark approached, ACD thought they had won it as a delicious ball into the box was met with a glancing header but it agonisingly slipped wide of the post. As we ticked into the latter part of stoppage time, and with penalties looming, the crucial moment arrived. Jolof’s attacker unleashed a skimmer of an effort from the edge of the box which went through the crowd and past the keeper to win the game 1-0!

Congratulations to Jolof Sports on their achievement, becoming the first team in league history to win all three of our competitions in the same season. Commiserations to an ACD United side who battled hard and wanted it just as much on the night but just lacked that killer instinct in front of goal on the night.

That brings an end to the season’s coverage after nine months of football. We look forward to the start of the 2019/20 campaign in September!
