Thursday night’s final saw Haver Town Reserves go into the contest against New Star Soccer as favourites but they didn’t get things all their own way in the first half, despite creating numerous chances throughout the opening forty-five minutes. The New Star keeper was on top form in the first half with three outstanding saves to keep his side in the contest while some brave defending, coupled with some wayward finishing, meant that the sides went in at the break at 0-0 and everything still to play for.

HALF-TIME: New Star Soccer 0 - 0 Haver Town Reserves

But within moments of the restart, substitute Owen Rice netted from close range to give his Haver Town side a lead. New Star then had their best spell in the game and were unlucky not to level it up before a killer second goal arrived just after the hour mark, the New Star keeper failed to clear his lines and Reece Simpson was presented with a simple chance to drill home for 2-0. Further New Star chances came and went before Owen Rice wrapped up the contest with his second and Haver’s third, the floodgates then opened towards the end. Skipper Billy Biggs poked in the fourth from close range before Reece Simpson’s strike completed a 5-0 win for Haver Town. That’s not before New Star earned a late penalty however, but their night was summed up by the effort hitting the post.

FULL-TIME: New Star Soccer 0 - 5 Haver Town Reserves

Congratulations to Steve Ince and his Haver Town side for completing a hard fought league and cup double this season. Commiserations to Jeff Khan’s New Star Soccer who performed strongly in the opening half but injuries and early second half goals killed the confidence in the second half.
