On Monday evening, it will be a night of firsts for the Essex Alliance League as the inaugural Fenton Trophy Final takes place with first time finalists, Fairlop Rovers, facing Old Esthameians in the league’s opening match at Leyton Orient’s Breyer Group Stadium.

For Fairlop Rovers, the evening marks the opportunity of a league and cup double as they were confirmed as Division Two’s champions just a week ago, capping a fine season in the fourth tier, a season which also saw them make the semi-finals of their divisional competition also. In this cup run, Rovers began their progress with solid 10-4 victory as they beat Avondale Rangers 10-4 in round one before putting twelve goals past Lymore Gardens Reserves in round two. In the quarter finals, they were victorious against Loughton Lions following appeal before coming through a tough semi-final against Rainham Working Mens Club, winning a shootout 4-3 after the game ended 1-1.

Standing against Rovers on Monday night are an Old Esthameians side who are no strangers to this stage of the competition having reached the final of the Premier Division Cup back in 2017, albeit with a different make up to the side. They will be hoping to complete a great run in the competition which started with a solid 2-0 away victory in the Preliminary Round, defeating Flyers Under 21s. Round One saw a goal filled contest as E’s came away 9-3 victors against Emerson & Upminster A, following that with a dramatic 4-3 success in the last sixteen against Ryan Under 23s. A pair of 3-2 scorelines complete the pathway to the final as they came through 3-2 winners against Royal Forest before repeating that feat with a win against Unitey in the semi-finals.

We look forward to welcoming both clubs, their spectators and the appointed match officials for which should be a great cup final experience at the Orient!
